Here are some photos of the bird both close-up and snapshots from the second flight. The in-flight shots are a bit blurry.

The plane as flown is equipped as follows:

Tru-Turn 3 1/2" aluminum spinner, Zinger 13x7 prop, Super Tigre .90 engine, Fox RC Long plug, Cool Power 10% fuel (green stuff), 6v 1100mah battery, Futaba 8 UHP TX, Hitech 8ch Supreme RX, Hitech servos, Sullivan 60 size tail wheel, Topflight Olive drab paint on nose, Dubro fueling valve in cowl.

The cowling was re-enforced with long-strand fiberglass filler on the inside at critical points. 4-40 rods and 2-56 ball-links for 4-40 rods were used throughout...except for throttle which uses a Golden Rod with 2-56 studs. Dubro ball-link horns and Sullivan metal clevises were used on all flight controls. CA hinges were fastened with thin CA..4 drops per side.

Flight characteristics.. Takeoffs uneventful. Landings are equally easy if made as wheel landings. Full stall landings are not too hard, but should be avoided in crosswinds. I have had crosswinds for each flight so far. and yes I did a full stall landing...almost tipped a wing doing that.) The supplied gear does a good job of cushioning landing forces.

The Supertigre .90 and 13x7 prop do a good job for scale flying. High speed passes are fast and the aileron response at all speed is really good. Flaps are almost a must for slowing down on the approach. I use full flaps every time.

The flaps produce practically no pitch change when deployed at landing pattern speed. Stalls are at a very slow speed and easily predicted. Recovery is quick.

Be careful on a go around with slamming the power on. not a lot of side area on a P-51...I might even double the suggested throws on rudder to help on the landing rollou tin a crosswind.

Very nice plane, easy to fly, always gets me compliments at the field.

Current flight status: 5 flights.

Sincerely,

Patrick S. Duncan
